One of my coaching clients asked me the following question during one of our sessions…

“Part of being productive is knowing what NOT to do. What are 3 common activities that Internet Marketers engage in that you recommend they minimize or not do at all?”

I’d like to respond to that question here publicly because I think it’s something that is EXTREMELY important for ALL internet marketers to consider.

So often we’re so concentrated on “traffic generation” and “list building” and “product creation” and all the internet marketing “stuff” that we fail to realize that there are some fundamental things that are keeping us from really being productive in our businesses.

See if any of these things are killing YOUR business…

1. Looking at and then purchasing distracting offers.

The problem with most internet marketers is that they are information junkies. They are on every major list and get offers to their inbox virtually every hour of the day. Many people spend waaaay too much time reading through the latest “offer of the week”. (I would venture that HOURS are wasted every week on this practice for the average internet marketer.)
And, worse still is the awful practice of routinely buying these offers which only furthers the distraction as the customer then spends precious time working on something new and abandoning any momentum they’ve already gained.

It’s an addiction that is at epidemic proportions. And that’s no joke. People are getting nowhere and perhaps the biggest reason is right here. They spend too much time chasing rabbits.

I have a simple rule that I go buy and that I teach my clients –

Don’t look at any new “offer” until Friday,
at the END of the workweek.

When you’ve gotten everything done for that week, THEN look at the mounting offers. If there was a deadline that you missed, then it’s probably for your betterment anyway. Besides, there will be plenty more opportunities for similar offers in the future, if not the same one.

I told a friend of mine the other day, “There has never been anything in all of Internet marketing that only happened ONCE”. Let that sink in. Whether it’s the same offer from the same person or a knock off from someone else, no “secret” stays secret for long and no offer remains unduplicated for long.

2. Browsing forums, Google, etc. with no real purpose.

How many hours are wasted each week browsing as some form of “entertainment”? That is, how much time is thrown away just reading posts at forums, chasing down webpages at Google, etc?

If you’re going to spend time browsing forums, do so with an agenda. Whether you’re taking notes, looking for product ideas, learning something or any other valuable activity, make sure you do SOMETHING from your browsing that is beneficial to your business.

I always recommend that internet marketers keep a notepad with them anytime they are browsing. Always jot down ideas. Always.

Reading a news page? Look at their marketing and take notes.

Browsing a blog about American Idol? Get ideas for your own blog.

Checking stats for Tony Romo’s last game? Identify ways the site is monetizing their traffic.

And, unless you are super disciplined, don’t do this browsing until AFTER you’ve completed your work for the day. It’s usually a distraction.

3. Taking the long way to do daily activities.

There are many activities that require an investment of time each day (answering emails, supporting customers, troubleshooting problems, managing affiliates, etc.). But, does that mean you should take the long way to get them done? Of course not.

To the contrary, you should take shortcuts as much as possible.

For example: If you find that you’re answering the same email over and over again, make a template that you simply copy and paste (instead of typing out the answer) whenever someone asks it. I probably average 10 hours of saved time every week by using this one thing alone.

Whenever possible, look for ways to automate (or at least semi-automate) any process that you do regularly.

In the end, you’ll be more productive.

When I was a kid I was pretty shy. Very shy in fact. Eventually I opened up and became more people friendly but it was a long and slow process. As I started to run businesses I came to realize a fact that I’m sure many other business owners know too – sometimes, dealing people really sucks, but it is a necessary evil.

Okay, that’s not the most eloquent way of putting it. My point is that at some time you will deal with a customer or supplier or even just some random joe schmo who decides to make your life difficult.

One of the main reasons I have decided to become an information marketer is because there is very little people contact required and you are dependent mostly on yourself. Since I manufacture the information and distribute it using online systems I only have to deal with my customers. Since my positioning is on target my customers really appreciate what I produce so it is rare if I have someone who is difficult to deal with, most relationships are a joy.

It wasn’t always like this though with other ventures I have managed and I suspect most people reading this article have to deal with many people on a day-by-day basis. People skills are a very important ability that small business owners must possess. Your communication abilities, salesmanship and emotional intelligence can carry you and your business far, and your lack of these abilities can hinder your success, bigtime!
Networking For Business

If word of mouth is the best way to get business the next best way must be networking. Networking has elements of word of mouth since often your current or previous customers will invite you to network with their peers or friends. This often leads to new business relationships and customers.

In university one of my very first businesses was website hosting. Like many thousands of other young Internet users around the world I had bought a hosting reseller account and skilled up at HTML. This meant that I could build and host websites. Of course many family and friends of family would need a website and I received a few successful leads by simply being “that kid who builds websites”.

A work acquaintance of mine referred me to his aunt who operated a kindergarten (pre-school) and wanted a website built. Back then I had little knowledge of online marketing but I did know how to bang up a quick template website. I arranged a meeting, my first real business client meeting for my new website business, with the owner of the pre-school.

The meeting went well. As is usually the case my Internet knowledge while not being too advanced, was superior to the average person so I could quite easily sell the services. I closed the deal, probably made a few hundred dollars and locked in a recurring yearly hosting fee. My business started and I had my first successful meeting with a real client.
My First CEO Meeting

Fast forward a couple of years and I put down to the phone after speaking with a potential business client for my editing business, BetterEdit. The client was a fairly large educational institution and I had just been speaking to a top level manager and we had arranged a meeting with the CEO. By that time the average small business owner didn’t intimidate me, but meeting with CEOs was new territory.

I slapped on my rarely used tie and headed to the meeting in a somewhat nervous state. I’d like to say that my charm and skills wowed her (the CEO) but my first taste with the leader of a large institution did not go that well. A combination of her lack of time and patience and my lack of good sense and brevity created a couple of “uncomfortable moments”, including one point where I was told to “get to the point”.

I left the meeting certainly wiser, and despite my perhaps less than stellar performance, I had an agreement that resulted in a steady $1000 – $2000 worth of work per month for the next six months.
People Skills

These interactions helped me develop people skills. Regardless of the outcome, meeting, selling and interacting with people on all sides of the business fence helped me to become a better entrepreneur, and in fact a more well rounded person. While it’s not always fun to deal with people it’s important that you develop the skills to do so. Without them you miss opportunities.
Leverage Your Networks

If you are struggling for clients but you are not working your network it’s time to change that. Here are some suggestions for you to improve your people skills, enhance your network and attract more clients -

* Friends and Family – This is by far the most common and easiest network you can leverage since you are already a part of it. The best way to do this is make sure everyone knows what line of work you are in. Talk about the amazing things you are doing in your business, how much fun you are having and of course, what exactly it is you do if your service or product is unusual or not mainstream. It’s amazing how the word of mouth grapevine can bring you work.
* Join networking groups – I was once invited to a networking group specifically designed for small business owners. Most meetings are held before office hours, once a month, and one or two members at each meeting do a short spiel about their business. There are no duplication of business types and the main purpose is to refer business. While personally I don’t like this method because it’s very overt and you can never be sure about the quality of the businesses (not to mention the early starts!), it may work well for you.
* Attend industry events – This style of organized event is more to my liking because the premise isn’t focused on referring business, although it often occurs, it’s more about building relationships and staying informed about events in your industry. You will need to force yourself to meet new people and interact so it’s a good way to polish the people skills.

Whatever you do remember good communication skills are an integral part of good business skills. If you are ignoring that aspect of your own development today is a good day to start down a new path of experience. copied from yaro sarkar

3.. Old Fashioned Business Networking

Yes, even though we are all buried in Spam, it is still possible to make new business contacts online. The recent JV (Joint Venture) craze reflects the simple principle that in the end, people do business with PEOPLE – not with pixels, bits, and bytes.
Old fashioned networking is still alive and well online. And it is the best method for getting some good exposure if you’re just starting out and have no money for marketing. By building strong business relationships, you will soon have other marketers offering to link to you, publish your articles, write about your site in their newsletter, and even offer you free advertising. One of the best places to make business contacts in your field is in forums.

For example, if you have started an affiliate web site that sells specialty dog training devices, hang out in the many dog-related forums and newsgroups. But instead of trying to help end consumers so they’ll visit your site, make friends with experts in related fields. In this case pet sitters, groomers, dog trainers, veterinary assistants, and even animal behaviorists can all be excellent contacts. As with all business networking, look for ways to help your colleagues. If they have their own site, offer them a link on yours. If they have an opt-in list, perhaps you can set up a special web page, and give them a rebate on any commissions you make. If they write their own articles, perhaps you can turn them into a mini-ebook and offer it to all your visitors. And there’s no reason you can’t be proactive, and send an email to no competitors – or even competitors – whose sites you admire. You do not have to consider every competitor your enemy. In a future special report we will explain exactly how you can create powerful partnerships with your competitors. However, for now, simply look for opportunities to be helpful.

One easy way to help – provided you do it diplomatically – is to point out a problem on someone’s site or in their ezine. If you find a broken link or some other error, drop them a note. Most webmasters WANT to know if a link suddenly stops working or if their database is generating internal server errors.

Another way to make powerful friends online is to read your Spam. That’s because ALL online merchants want to know if someone is promoting their affiliate product via Spam. It’s not just the Spammer who can suffer some stiff legal penalties – they can too. So if you see someone’s eBook or software being sold via Spam, write to them and let them know. Make sure you keep the original Spam, and send it to them as an attachment (not forwarded) so they receive all the headers intact. How can networking help get you target traffic? If you make 20 strong, personal, one-on-one business contacts every month, at least five of them will end up sending you traffic. Somehow, someday, they will start pushing the right kinds of visitors to you. It might be by linking to you. They may mention your site in a viral ebook or one of their articles. They might want to do a joint venture or collaborate on a money making project. They might do all these things – and many more.

Yes, it is old fashioned. It is not autopilot. It is not passive. However, networking costs you nothing except time – and can be worth gold in the long term.

4.. Explore the Handheld Market

This one is outrageously simple, yet almost completely overlooked. Next time you create a viral information product of any kind – whether it’s an ebook, a special report, a white paper, a case study, or a compilation of articles – get it formatted for handhelds. There are dozens – perhaps even hundreds – of sites that offer free downloads for handhelds. And most handheld users are always on the lookout for something to read on that little screen. It will cost less than $50 to pay someone from Guru.com, Elance.com, or Scriptlance.com to format your product for the handheld market. In addition, with over 11 million handheld users out there, that is a lot of potential viral traffic for your site.

FIVE WAYS TO TRAFFIC SECRETS

5.. Combine Surveys and Polls with PPC

You probably already know that surveys are excellent for finding out what your target market wants. Nevertheless, if combined with low cost, quick and dirty Google PPC, surveys can also send many targeted prospects to your site every month. First, do some keyword research. You will need to find keywords and Key phrases that are related to your survey topic but do not have too many Google campaigns running. You can do this very quickly with a tool like Jeff Alderson’s Adword Analyzer, since it will show you exactly how many Google campaigns are running for various keywords at any given time.
Second, sign up for an inexpensive survey service like Survey Monkey (www.surveymonkey.com)we don’t recommend free survey services, since they tend to limit the number of participants, and the whole point is to get as many people as possible to take your survey. Now design a survey that will appeal to your target market.

Next, come up with an incentive for people to take your survey. Make it a download, so you can capture the prospect’s email address. And make it viral. Even a simple white paper can be viral. You do not necessarily have to cram it with affiliate links. Just make sure your URL is conspicuously listed on every page. Now put up a simple web page that introduces people to the survey topic, offers the incentive, asks for an email address where you can send the download link and the survey results, and links to the survey. Finally, use at least a dozen of the keywords your researched earlier to set up Google Adwords campaigns advertising your survey. Make sure the ad uses your keyword, and that it mentions the incentive. “Take this photography survey, get a free gift.” You don’t have to be the #1 ad. You can even be on the second or third page.

The point is to capture a targeted prospect’s contact information for a very small investment. However, there are some additional serious fringe benefits in addition to traffic. First, you will collect valuable information on what your prospects are looking for. Second, you will have their permission to contact them with the survey results and the download link for the thank you gift. Third, if you make that free gift a viral report, you will eventually get more targeted traffic. Nice!

Be friendly and learn to know your customers more. Find out their names, needs, ages etc. Allow your customers to criticize you and evaluate your products and service. Send them mails when necessary even send a free newsletters just to keep contact. Be cautious, be grateful to them for coming to purchase from you. Always say THANK YOU to them and don’t ever get tired of giving this important charisma.

PROMISE LESS AND GIVE PLENTY TO YOUR CUSTOMER.

Beyond the expectation of your customer, or a potential one for that matter, give more information on a particular product, send it without delay, if need be that you direct your customer to where he gets what he wants without necessarily buying from you, please, gladly do so because your kindness will motivate your potential customer to return to you anytime there is a need. Do a follow up by sending a mail, a phone call to find out if he needs further help that way, your customer will learn to trust you and will also know that you are not after his money but his happiness and satisfaction.

Remember, customers are always right; therefore their wish should be your command. Go extra mile to improve your relationship with your potential customers and main customers. Whenever a customer is not satisfied about a product, just take it back and refund cheque timely. If you do this, it will prove your credibility and maturity in business.

Large and small business has their problems, find out were yours is not measuring up well and deal with it. Seek advice from successful people and take actions that can help you in offering a better service to prospective customer. You need to work hard to meet the demand and needs of your customers.

Don’t be mentally poor; go for training by attending seminars and business workshops like Sam Adeyemi said “when we value knowledge, we increase in value”.

So many people are into jobs, businesses and career which they didn’t like, they are being forced by either their parents, or by other peoples opinion to be were they are, were as they are not motivated or happy being there.

Let us free ourselves from living our own lives for other people. We have to understand that there is no play back as in rewind or fast forward in real life; therefore, every single day must be memorable to us as life itself has no duplicate. Therefore, be that man, woman that you want to be, strike that business deal and be honest about your dealings with everyone you come across in life.

Being very honest in business and to people is a very crucial matter. If you want to succeed in life, you must learn to be truthful online and offline. Don’t promise what you cannot deliver, and don’t go beyond what you know you cannot carry. People are dishonest because they lack self esteem; they are afraid of the future and want to make money at all cost.

What will it benefit you if you swindle another man of his hard earned money simply because you want to amass wealth? You make someone cry over what you did to him in online business? Let us treat people as humans, as brothers, as one blood because we all have one blood indeed weather white or black, it does not matter the color of skin, we must protect each other and do everything within our power to be upright and straight forward on the net and in real world.

When people know you to be a man or woman of your words, when they know that you can deliver, when they know you to be honest and not bragged, they will do business with you and they will stick around you. ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin county, Kentucky, his parents were born in Virginia. Lincoln made extraordinary efforts to attain knowledge while working on a farm splitting rails for fences and keeping store at New Salem, Illinois. He was a Captain in the Black Hook war, spent eight years in the Illinois Legislature and rode the circuit of courts for many years. His law partner said of him, "His ambition was a little engine that knew no rest".

as the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln helped keep the American Union together during the Civil War and abolished slavery in the United States. He will always be remembered for his honesty, compassion and strength of character, Lincoln remains on of the most respected presidents in American history.
this means , no matter how little your beginning might be, if you are inspired by what you believe, your name will not go down and you will have no limitations.

BENJAMIN .S. CARSON

Ben was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 18, 1951, eight years after his birth, Ben"s parents divorced leaving the mother to fend for him and his elder brother Curtis. In the fifth grade, Ben and his brother were behind in the school, Ben was at the bottom of his class, his classmates called him "dummy" and he developed a violent, uncontrollable temper, seeing Ben"s failing grades, his mother sharply limited the boy"s television watching and refused to let them outside to play until they had finished their homework each day. She required them to read two library books a week and to give her written reports on their reading . Within a few weeks, Carson"s intellectual ability improved greatly. This was due to the books he had read.

He determined to become a physician and from high school, he proceeded to Yale University earning a degree in psychology. From there he went to Medical school of the University of Michigan and studied neurosurgery. His excellent hand-eye coordination and the three dimensional reasoning skills made him a superior surgeon at age 32, he became the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at the world famous Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Carson wrote many books including "gifted hand"and "Think Big".
